Do I need to have a Bachelor's Degree to apply?
Yes, you will need to have completed a bachelor's program by the time the school year you are applying for begins.
When will I be contacted about my application?
You will be contacted in the order your application was received.
When will I be notified if I am selected for the program?
Candidates should be notified of their status by mid-April. Please note, this is only a rough timeline and notification may be earlier or delayed. Candidates will be notified by mail (not e-mail) of their status. Candidates selected for the program will receive a phone call prior to receiving a letter of admission.
When will you need my transcripts?
Transcripts are not required at the time of application.
Unofficial transcripts are required if you are chosen to be a finalist.
Official transcripts are required if you are admitted to the program.

How do I request an application fee waiver?
An applicant who demonstrates financial need may submit a written request to have the application fee waived by sending an email to grads@sandiego.edu.

If I applied last year and would like to re-apply, do I need to resubmit my materials?
We do not keep any files from previous years. You must resubmit all materials.

Do I need to list my legal name or stage name?
Your application will be tracked under your legal name, not your stage name.

Does my undergraduate degree need to be in theatre?
No.

What is the application deadline?
Your application and materials for the 2025 recruitment season must be submitted before or on December 13th 2024.

What about letters of recommendation?
Letters of recommendation are not taken into consideration during our selection process. Once an applicant has been selected as a finalist, we will contact your references listed on your application for a personal recommendation.

Can I schedule an audition or check availability for an audition prior to you contacting me?
No. The only way to schedule an audition is to apply to the program, and wait for your application to process. Once it has been processed, we will contact you with an audition date and time.

Do you accept video taped auditions, or private auditions not on the schedule?
Auditions for the Fall of 2024 will be In-Person in January and February of 2024. More information will be given once you apply. You may request to submit a self-tape audition.

Do you participate in U/RTA auditions?
No, the only way to secure an audition is to apply directly to our program.

Are there callbacks for your audition process?
Yes! There will be callbacks. Details will be given once you apply and are contacted for your appointment.
What is needed for auditions?
The audition consists of two, two-minute contrasting monologues, one Shakespeare and one contemporary. Additional monologues may be requested at the time of your audition.

After decisions have been made, may I get feedback on my audition?
We are unable to provide individual feedback after the auditions due to the number of applicants each year.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
Do you provide the scholarships for the international students?
It’s the same as domestic students. However, international students will need to show financial proof they have enough money for housing and living expenses. The scholarship does not cover housing and living expenses.
Do you provide any visa support?
We provide F-1 Student Visa for accepted students only. We do not provide any type of visa for the auditions. International applicants will have to make their way to the US under a visitor / guest visa
(B-2 Visa) for the auditions.
Do you accept video taped auditions, or private auditions not on the schedule?
Auditions for the Fall of 2024 will be In-Person in the U.S. More information will be given once you apply. You may request to submit a self-tape audition.
1. Transcript Evaluation is required. Applicants must have their transcripts evaluated by World Education Services, Inc. (WES). Once all required documentation has been submitted to WES, an evaluation can take as little as seven days.

2. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is mandatory and can only be waived if English is your primary language or you have obtained a bachelor degree from the U.S., Great Britain, Canada or Australia. Other exceptions can be made on a case by case basis.
